In preparation for the many clinical courses I help to organise, I give daily consideration to the amount of patients we will require on each of the courses, whether it is for MRCP PACES, MRCS OSCE or the MRCPCH Clinical
We are continuously looking to recruit more volunteer patient for both the Manchester and London based courses.
Who goes on these clinical courses?
They are fully qualified hospital doctors who are about to take their final professional examinations to become Members of the Royal College of Physicians.
What is involved for the patient?
A short physical examination by the doctors on the course.
The examination is solely dependent upon your condition and may involve an examination of your chest, abdomen, eyes, etc if appropriate. None of the examinations involve any internal or exploratory examinations or any clinical drugs tests. Patients will NOT be asked to give blood or urine samples etc.
Both Registrars and Consultants will oversee the examination of patients and will be asking the doctors to present your case and to give a diagnosis.
Where possible these same Registrars & Consultants will be assigned to a patient for the duration of their time at the course.
As patients can be sitting/lying around for some of the time, the bringing in of books/magazines, walkman/radio, etc is recommended.
A little about the clinical course
The clinical course is to give the doctors actual "hands on" experience with patients and to give them the opportunity of diagnosing conditions under examination conditions.
