Deadly sofas and skin diseases

I read with disbelief about the toxic furniture that has literally burnt thousands of people, cost the NHS (and therefore the tax-payer) heaven knows how much and … has still not been re-called!!! Sofas manufactured in China have been treated with a fungicide, which, when warmed up (in our cosy living-rooms), can burn the skin, even through clothing.

For how many years has the NHS been testing and treating people presenting with these reactions with steroids, creams and lotions for conditions such as eczema? It was a smart dermatologist from Liverpool who put two and two together and realised that the common denominator was new furniture.

But what has stunned me is that it is going to take a European directive in May to do the sensible thing. Yes, it has gone to litigation but the furniture is still out there and in some cases is still being sold!!!
